The Mayor of Kazan visited the Engineering Lyceum-Boarding School of KNRTU-KAI.

On February 18, the Mayor of Kazan Ilsur Metshin visited the Engineering Lyceum-Boarding School of KNRTU-KAI. Ilsur Metshin was also accompanied by the Chief Officer of Novo-Savinovsky and Aviastroitelny Timur Alibaev, the Head of the Education Department of Kazan Irek Rizvanov, the Chairman of the Economic Development Committee Artur Valiakhmetov and others. The Rector of KNRTU-KAI Albert Gilmutdinov, the Principal of the Lyceum Dinar Gabidullin and the staff of the lyceum welcomed the guests.

The tour around the campus began with a presentation of the education system at the Engineering Lyceum-Boarding School, its teaching staff, WorldSkills, Olympiads achievements, and the results of the USE.

Then the honorable guests wished to stop by the computer and engineering graphics lab, used by the members of the WorldSkills team of the Republic of Tatarstan. The team members were involved in production of different items with the use of 3D modeling.

The Mayor of the city had an opportunity to talk with Sufiya Minnebayeva in person, who gained a second place at the National Students Championship in 2019, being the 10th grade student, and Ilya Posmygaev, the multiple champion of Russia and gold medalist of WorldSkills National Championship 2019.

“I am working on a design changes module,” said Ilya Posmygaev. – Basically, we have a hairdryer that needs to be modified, specifically, we need to make a removable handle and to increase ergonomics. After the module production, the model will be 3D printed and tested.”

“You have very impressive skills. What are you planning to do in the future?”- the Mayor asked Ilya Posmygaev.

“I want to build jet engines,” Ilya replied, and Ilsur Metshin wished him good luck in implementing his ideas.

Furthermore, the guests attended the leadership lessons, which are an integral part of the educational process at the Engineering Lyceum-Boarding School. The students were eager to ask the Mayor for some advice. “You have to get up early and do your best every single day. The leadership is, first of all, a self-improvement,” – said Ilsur Metshin.

In the project area, the Mayor was able to appreciate the pilot projects of students. His particular attention was drawn to an unmanned aerial vehicle, the so-called “flying wing”, made of a composite material of the X8 type. The students created and programmed all flaying electronics themselves. As a result, the unmanned “aircraft” with a wingspan of 2.6 meters is gaining altitude up to 5 thousand meters. The flying range is 1 km. Ilsur Metshin appreciated the device and expressed confidence that in the future the lyceum’s young engineers and designers will achieve even greater success.

Moreover, in the project area there is a special place for automated flight of quadcopters, designed by the lyceum students. Egor Tarasov, the 10th grade student, the WorldSkills champion of Russia in 2019, demonstrated to the Mayor of the city the controlled flight of drone with a load - a tennis ball. After that, Ilsur Metshin tried to manipulate this device, using special FPV goggles that can create a feeling of flying in the first person.

At the end of this event, the Mayor thanked the Rector and teaching staff for their work and wished the students success. “These children who study at the Engineering Lyceum-Boarding School is the gold reserve of our whole country,” he said. - Your achievements are very impressive, but, what is more, it builds confidence for a better tomorrow. It makes my heart glad when I see such lyceum, full of gifted children, who are ready to make the world a better place to live. I am sure you have many projects ahead that will benefit the entire world.”
